Spring Moving Guide: Everything You Need to Know

Are you planning for a spring relocation? Although a move can be incredibly exciting in any season, spring brings about feelings of renewal and growth, which can make moving feel that much more special. As you prepare for your spring move, you might be wondering about the best, most effective ways to tackle the process.

Fortunately, your relocation doesn’t need to feel like a difficult experience. With the right steps, you can tackle your spring move like a pro. Discover our spring moving guide, and learn everything you need to know before embarking on this journey!

Simple Steps to Your Spring Move

Looking for the right know-how to orchestrate your upcoming move? You’ve come to the right place. Learn how to tackle your spring relocation in a few simple steps!

Create a Relocation Plan

  • Start Early: Spring is a popular time for moving, so start planning at least 8 weeks before your intended move date. Create a moving timeline with weekly goals to help you stay organized and on track without any tasks slipping through the cracks.
  • Break It Down: Divide the moving process into manageable tasks. Consider tasks like decluttering, packing, hiring a moving company, and updating your address. Breaking down the process into a manageable to-do list will make it less overwhelming.
  • Schedule Appointments: Book moving-related appointments well in advance. This includes hiring a moving company, reserving a moving truck, and scheduling any necessary services, such as disconnecting and reconnecting utilities.

Spring Cleaning

  • Declutter Your Home: Take advantage of the fresh start that spring brings by decluttering your home. This pre-move spring cleaning will reduce the amount of items you need to pack and unpack, ultimately saving time and energy. Allow plenty of time to sort through your home and decide which items are no longer wanted or needed.
  • Donate and Sell: Consider donating gently used items to local charities or selling them online. Not only will you lighten your load, but you’ll also be contributing to a good cause or making a little extra cash.

Gather Packing Supplies

Before you start packing, make sure you have all the necessary supplies. Stock up on boxes in various sizes, packing tape, bubble wrap, labels, and markers. Having the appropriate packing materials will keep your belongings safe while in transit.

Find a Reliable Moving Company

  • Research and Compare: Start researching moving companies early, and obtain quotes from multiple providers. Read reviews, ask for recommendations from friends or family, and ensure the company is licensed and insured. Doing thorough research will allow you to choose a reliable company for your relocation needs.
  • Book in Advance: Spring is a busy season for moving, so secure your preferred moving date by booking well in advance. This step is crucial to ensure you have a professional, reliable team to assist with your move.

Pack Room by Room

Packing can quickly become chaotic if not completed systematically. Set yourself up for success by approaching the task with a structured game plan. Pack one room at a time to stay organized and reduce stress. Label each box with its contents and the destination room to simplify the unpacking process.

Protect Fragile Items

  • Wrap and Pad: Fragile items require extra care. Wrap breakables in bubble wrap or use clothing and linens as padding. Place padding between items in boxes to prevent damage during transit.
  • Mark Fragile Boxes: Clearly mark boxes containing delicate items with a “fragile” label. This will alert movers to handle these boxes with extra care and ensure they are placed in a secure position during transport.

Update Your Address

  • Notify Relevant Parties: Changing your address involves more than just notifying the post office. Inform utility companies, subscription services, banks, and other relevant parties about your upcoming move.
  • Forward Mail: Submit a change of address form to the post office to ensure that your mail is forwarded to your new address. This will prevent any important documents or packages from getting lost in the transition.

Pack an Essentials Box

Pack a box with essential items you’ll need on the first day in your new home. Include toiletries, a change of clothes, important documents, basic kitchen items, and any other items you’ll require immediately. Keep this box clearly labeled and accessible so you can locate and unpack it first upon arrival. This will make your first day in your new home feel much simpler.

Plan for Spring Weather

Keep a watchful eye on the weather forecast for your moving day. Spring weather can be unpredictable, ranging from frigid cold to heat and humidity, so be prepared for rain or unexpected changes. Have rain gear, tarps, and protective coverings for your belongings on standby in case.

Perform a Final Walkthrough

  • Double-Check Everything: Before leaving your old home, perform a final walkthrough. Confirm that all items are packed and ready for transport. Check closets, drawers, and cabinets for any overlooked items.
  • Clean Up: Ensure you leave your old home in good condition. Clean each room, dispose of any remaining trash, and make sure all utilities are turned off before locking the door for the last time.

Celebrate New Beginnings!

Spring is a season of new beginnings, and your relocation is one of these exciting beginnings! Now that you’re in your new space, take the time to celebrate a fresh chapter in your life and appreciate the many possibilities it brings. Welcome home!

To guide you through the decision, we’ve listed some of the most prominent pros and cons in this article. Discover some of the positives and negatives of Sarasota living before planning your move, and find out if it’s the ideal place for you!

Pros of Moving to Sarasota

There are countless perks of relocating to Sarasota, FL. Learn about some of the most prominent advantages below…

  • Weather

Like other cities in the region, Sarasota boasts a warm and sunny climate, making it an attractive destination for those seeking a more temperate environment. The city’s weather is characterized by mild winters and hot summers, creating an appealing atmosphere for outdoor activities year-round. Whether you enjoy lounging on the beach, strolling through parks, or participating in sports, Sarasota’s climate provides ample opportunities for an active and enjoyable lifestyle.

  • Beaches

One of Sarasota’s most alluring features is its pristine beaches, with Siesta Key Beach being a standout example. Renowned for its powdery white sand and turquoise waters, Siesta Key Beach consistently ranks among the best beaches in the United States, making it an incredible location to relocate to. The coastal charm extends beyond Siesta Key, as Sarasota offers a variety of coastal spots for residents to unwind and soak in the natural beauty of the Gulf of Mexico.

  • Cultural Scene

For those with an appreciation for the arts and culture, Sarasota provides a thriving scene to enjoy. The city is home to numerous art galleries, theaters, and cultural events that cater to a diverse range of tastes. The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, a cultural gem, showcases an extensive collection of art and serves as a testament to Sarasota’s commitment to fostering creativity and artistic expression.

  • Outdoor Recreation

Sarasota’s natural landscape encourages outdoor enthusiasts to explore and engage in various recreational activities. Boating, fishing, and hiking are popular pastimes, with many parks and nature reserves offering opportunities for residents to connect with nature. Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll through botanical gardens or an adrenaline-pumping adventure in Myakka River State Park, Sarasota’s outdoor offerings cater to a wide range of interests.

  • Great Healthcare

Access to quality healthcare is a crucial consideration when contemplating a move, and Sarasota excels in this aspect. The city is home to reputable medical facilities and healthcare providers, ensuring that residents have access to top-notch healthcare services. This factor can appeal to individuals or families with specific healthcare needs, providing peace of mind and a sense of security.

Cons of Moving to Sarasota

Although Sarasota is an excellent location, every city has its cons. Learn what cons to expect before planning a relocation to this city.

  • Cost of Living

While Sarasota offers an attractive lifestyle, the cost of living can be relatively high. Housing costs, in particular, may present a significant financial consideration for prospective residents. Real estate prices and property taxes contribute to the overall expense of living in Sarasota, and individuals or families on a budget may find it challenging to navigate the higher costs associated with housing and daily expenses.

  • Traffic

As with many popular destinations, Sarasota experiences traffic congestion, especially during peak seasons and events. The influx of tourists, combined with the local population, can lead to delays and frustration for commuters. Navigating through the city during rush hours or busy tourist periods may require patience, and residents may need to plan their travel accordingly to avoid the brunt of traffic congestion.

  • Hurricane Risk

Living in Florida comes with the inherent risk of hurricanes, and Sarasota is no exception. The city is susceptible to tropical storms and hurricanes during the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1st to November 30th. While Sarasota has infrastructure and emergency plans in place to handle such events, the potential for severe weather and its associated risks is a concern that residents must be prepared for, including evacuation plans and home protection measures.

  • Limited Public Transportation

Sarasota’s public transportation system is not as comprehensive as in some larger cities, and the area is primarily designed for car travel. This may pose a challenge for individuals who rely heavily on public transit for their daily commute. While efforts are being made to improve public transportation options, those without a personal vehicle may find it less convenient to navigate the city efficiently.

  • Tourists

Sarasota’s popularity as a tourist destination contributes to its vibrant atmosphere, but it also brings challenges. During peak tourist seasons, beaches and attractions may become crowded, impacting the overall experience for residents. Additionally, increased tourism can lead to more traffic congestion, longer wait times at popular restaurants, and a higher demand for services, potentially causing inconvenience for those who prefer a quieter and less crowded living environment.

Ready to Relocate to Sarasota?

In conclusion, the decision to move to Sarasota, like any relocation, involves weighing the pros and cons based on individual priorities and preferences. The city’s favorable climate, beautiful beaches, cultural richness, and healthcare facilities make it an attractive destination. However, the higher cost of living, traffic concerns, hurricane risk, limited public transportation, and the impact of tourism are factors that potential residents should carefully consider. By thoroughly assessing these aspects and aligning them with personal preferences, individuals can make an informed decision that aligns with their lifestyle and priorities.

Florida Housing Market Trends & Projections 2024

As we progress further into 2024, the Florida housing market continues to evolve from developments of years past. From economic trends to demographic and housing inventory shifts and beyond, the market is influenced by many different factors. Florida is known as a year-round destination for investors and those looking to visit, live seasonally, or live full-time, which has not changed. However, the year 2024 promises changes to the housing market that are imperative to understand before buying a home in the state.

So, what can you expect from the Florida housing market in 2024? Let’s delve deeper into the trends and projections that will shape the state’s real estate landscape in the upcoming months.

2024 Florida Housing Market Trends to Watch for

Understanding the factors influencing the housing market, from interest rates to housing inventory, is key to making the right buying or selling decision for your home and family. The following are some of the top trends to look out for when it comes to the 2024 housing market.

  • Population Growth

Florida’s population has experienced steady growth for a number of years, which will continue throughout 2024. This growth is driven by inbound moves from other states, international immigration, and natural population growth from those already living in the state. Projections indicate that this growth will continue in 2024 and beyond as the state continues to attract those looking for better job opportunities, housing, and weather. This will drive demand for housing, particularly in cities and coastal towns.

  • Rising Home Prices

With continued increased demand for housing with a limited inventory, housing prices in Florida have risen in the last few years. Though experts expert this to continue, but indicate that prices won’t continue to rise as quickly as they have in recent years. Instead, they’ll keep a more sustainable pace and may moderate slightly throughout 2024.

  • Increase in Suburban Living

Back in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a surge in moves to more suburban areas as people left packed cities for more space and bang for their buck while working remotely. The effects of the pandemic continue into 2024, where permanent remote work and many’s greater appreciation for space and outdoor pursuits continue to drive homebuyers from cities and towards the suburbs. In Florida, suburban communities have continued to experience increased demand for single-family homes and properties with more land. As a result, suburban markets are expected to outperform urban ones in both price appreciation and home sales in 2024.

  • Affordability

It’s well known that many areas of Florida offer many opportunities for luxury living, but more and more potential homebuyers are looking for housing in the coming year that balances space and amenities with affordability. Developers and policymakers have responded to this demand by shifting focus toward affordable housing options throughout the state. These efforts to address the rising cost of housing come in the form of workforce housing initiatives and mixed-income developments, which puts the concept of homeownership in reach for more segments of the population.

  • Sustainability

Especially in Florida, which is particularly affected by the ever-present concerns associated with climate change, sustainability and resiliency have become huge considerations in the state’s housing market. Its vulnerabilities to hurricanes and rising sea levels have prompted the state to be proactive in establishing green building standards and flood mitigation strategies, among other ways of being more environmentally friendly and protective of housing. This is designed to give prospective homebuyers more security in their investments and the long-term costs of buying a home in Florida.

Looking to Make Your Florida Move in 2024?

The Florida housing market continues to experience steady growth and a shifting landscape of buyer priorities and preferences. That said, the state continues to offer some of the best opportunities for quality homeownership and investment in the country.

If buying a home in Florida is in your future this year, it’s important to work with the right Florida movers for your relocation. Why Winter is the Best Time to Move to Florida

saratsarasMoving to a new state is a significant life decision, and choosing the right time to make the transition can greatly impact the overall experience. For those considering a move to Florida, the winter season presents an ideal window of opportunity for several compelling reasons.

Reasons to Move to Florida in the Winter

From temperate weather and avoiding the tourist rush to the minimized risk of hurricanes, taking advantage of seasonal discounts, and settling in before the vibrant burst of spring, there are numerous advantages to embarking on your Florida relocation during the winter months. Keep reading to discover why winter may be the perfect season to move to Florida!

  • Temperate Weather

One of the primary draws for moving to Florida in winter is the delightfully temperate weather. While much of the northern hemisphere battles frigid temperatures and snowfall, Florida experiences milder conditions that make the relocation process significantly more comfortable. With daytime temperatures ranging from the pleasant 60s to 70s Fahrenheit (15-25 degrees Celsius), you can bid farewell to the heavy winter gear and instead focus on a smoother transition into your new Floridian lifestyle.

Plus, the subtropical climate during the winter months ensures that you won’t be facing the intense heat and humidity that characterizes Florida’s summer. This makes moving and settling into your new home a far more enjoyable experience, allowing you to explore your new surroundings without the discomfort of extreme weather.

  • Avoid Tourist Season

Florida is a sought-after destination for tourists, attracting millions of visitors annually. The peak of tourist season typically aligns with the winter months, as people from colder regions flock to the state to escape the harsh weather. By choosing to move during winter, you can strategically avoid the crowds and congestion associated with this influx of tourists.

Navigating the streets, exploring local attractions, and securing accommodations become markedly easier without the intense tourist rush. This not only streamlines the logistics of your move but also allows you to acclimate to your new environment at your own pace, free from the hustle and bustle of peak travel times.

  • Lower Risk of Hurricanes

Florida is no stranger to hurricanes, with the peak of the hurricane season occurring from June to November. By opting for a winter move, you significantly reduce the risk of encountering these potentially disruptive weather events. Moving during the off-peak hurricane season ensures a more stable and secure transition, minimizing the chances of facing evacuation orders or dealing with the aftermath of severe weather.

This strategic timing enables you to settle into your new home with peace of mind, knowing that you’ve chosen a period with historically lower hurricane activity. It allows you to focus on the excitement of your relocation rather than worrying about unpredictable weather conditions.

  • Seasonal Discounts

Winter in Florida not only brings favorable weather conditions but also presents an opportune time for savvy individuals to capitalize on seasonal discounts. Many businesses, including moving services, real estate agencies, and home improvement stores, offer promotions and reduced prices during the winter months.

By taking advantage of these seasonal discounts, you can potentially save a significant amount of money on various aspects of your move. From discounted moving rates to lower home prices, the financial benefits of a winter relocation can contribute to a more cost-effective and budget-friendly transition to the Sunshine State.

  • Settle In Before Spring

Choosing a winter move to Florida allows you to settle into your new home and community well before the arrival of spring. As the state transforms with vibrant blossoms and lush greenery, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the beauty of Florida’s natural landscape awakening after the winter slumber.

Getting a head start on your relocation ensures that you can fully enjoy the amenities, local events, and outdoor activities that characterize the Floridian spring (and upcoming summer). Whether it’s exploring pristine beaches, attending community festivals, or simply savoring the warmth of the sun, moving in winter positions you to make the most of the enchanting transition from winter to spring in the Sunshine State.

Is A Florida Move Right for You This Winter?

The decision to move to Florida during the winter months offers a host of advantages that can enhance the overall experience of your relocation. From the comfortable weather and avoidance of tourist crowds to the reduced risk of hurricanes, seasonal discounts, and the opportunity to settle in before spring blooms, each aspect contributes to a smoother and more enjoyable transition to the Sunshine State.

As you prepare for your move, consider the unique benefits that a winter relocation provides. Take the time to plan and organize your move to maximize the advantages offered by this strategic timing. By doing so, you’ll not only embrace the allure of Florida but also set the stage for a seamless and gratifying transition to your new home in the Sunshine State.

Packing Tips from the Best Professional Movers

Packing: one word that can evoke dread in the hearts of many. Even the task of packing for a vacation is frequently pushed until the very last minute in an effort to avoid its challenges. For moves, this process can feel nearly impossible. However, this cloud does have a silver lining! Packing isn’t doomed to forever be terrible. In fact, it can become quite simple with the right knowledge. By employing the proper steps, you can pack like an expert in no time. Ready to pack for your move like a professional? Keep reading for our nine expert steps!

  • Create a Game Plan

Every good packing process needs a game plan. Working haphazardly simply won’t get the job done right. Create a plan of attack to understand the best way to go about packing your home. Which rooms should you take care of first? What will need to wait until the end? Which items need special protection to avoid damage? Asking yourself these questions can be a helpful way to guide your decisions and formulate a plan that allows for the best packing outcomes possible.

Ideally, you should start with the rooms that can be packed as much as possible. These are the rooms that contain the least essential items—so probably not your bathroom or kitchen. Understanding what areas of the house can be packed first and determining an order of operations will structure the process more, a helpful step to take.

  • Declutter First

You might not realize it at first, but a necessary part of packing is getting rid of things. Prior to even a single item being packed, it’s in your best interest to sort through your items and declutter. Why? Decluttering allows you to determine what’s no longer wanted or needed in your home, allowing you to eliminate items before you go through the trouble of packing (and unpacking!) them.

Sort through your items and decide what can be donated, sold, thrown away, and kept. Try to keep an objective outlook as you go through your belongings, as emotional attachments can often make this process difficult. If you need additional help, reach out to a trusted loved one to assist you through the task.

  • Get the Necessary Supplies

Before it’s time to pack, you will need an ample amount of supplies to sufficiently pack and protect your belongings. Having the right supplies is a crucial part of the process, so be sure to assess exactly what you require for your belongings. Here are some of the most common items most people need as they pack for a move:

  • Sturdy cardboard boxes
  • Resealable plastic bags
  • Packing tape
  • Permanent markers
  • Bubble wrap
  • Packing paper
  • Packing peanuts
  • Moving blankets

  • Work Room to Room

Moving experts agree — packing one room at a time is the way to go. This strategy is helpful for a few reasons. First, this methodical approach makes it a lot easier to handle the task in chunks, ultimately making the process a lot less stressful. But perhaps even more importantly, working room by room prevents any items from different rooms going in the same box.

Keeping these items separated is an effective way to stay organized and to improve the unpacking process. It will be much easier to find items in their boxes when you arrive at your new home if they are with items from the same room.

  • Pack Strategically

Strategy is the name of the game as you pack for a relocation. There are plenty of important elements to remember as you pack to optimize your results. First, be sure to pack your belongings snugly to prevent movement as much as possible while in transit.

Next, pay attention to the weight of the items you’re packing. Anything heavy should be towards the bottom of the box, while lighter items can sit on top. Additionally, don’t overload your boxes. If it starts to get too heavy when the box still has space left in it, fill the empty air with something lightweight and protective such as bubble wrap. This will minimize jostling without adding extra weight.

  • Organize and Label

Organize, organize, and organize some more! You can never be too organized as you pack for a relocation. Prioritize a high level of organization by being diligent and thorough when labeling your boxes. Each label should be written in large, bold letters on at least two sides of the box. It should list not only the room it corresponds to, but also details about the items inside.

If you want to know every item in each box, an inventory is the perfect tool for you. Create an inventory by assigning a number to each box. Then, on a spreadsheet or document, you can list exactly what items are in what box number. This is the most comprehensive way to organize your packing.

  • Protect Your Items

Protection is a critical part of packing, especially for fragile items. As previously mentioned, take the proper measures to limit movement inside your boxes. In addition, you should use sufficient padding on all of your more sensitive belongings.

Wrap items in bubble wrap or other cushiony materials before placing in the boxes, as this will absorb any shock. Keeping your items protected will reduce the risk of damage in transit, ultimately minimizing any stress when it’s time to unpack.

  • Secure Important Documents

For important documents such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, social security cards, and other necessary papers, be sure to secure them when you pack. These items should either be kept in a safe, private spot that you will remember or kept directly with you as you travel. Keeping track of these documents is incredibly important, so be mindful of how you handle them.

  • Keep Essentials With You

On moving day, it’s best to keep an essentials kit with you throughout the entire process. Especially for long-distance moves, this will serve as your go-to, necessary items during the time it takes to arrive at your new home. In addition to items you will need in the interim, it should also contain any basic items you will need for the first day or so in your new location, preventing you from searching through boxes after a long day of moving.

Pack Like The Pros!

Although packing isn’t a process you can just rush through, it also isn’t a process that you need to dread either. All it takes is the right knowledge for you to become a packing expert.

To effectively operate, moving companies require several different licenses, certifications, and insurance. Without these important qualifications, it’s best to opt for another company.

Whether you’re moving locally or long distance, your movers should have a U.S. Department of Transportation number, which can usually be found on their site. Look out for the term “USDOT” when you search for this certification. Additionally, any moving company you work with should be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

It’s also advisable to ask about the company’s insurance policies and to check that it is in good standing with the Better Business Bureau. All of these stipulations are great ways to verify that a company is legitimate and trustworthy.

  • Poor Online Reviews

A simple and convenient way to determine a company’s merit is to read its online reviews. Fortunately, many sites provide platforms for customers to provide their feedback and weigh in about their experiences with movers.

Although one negative review amid many positive ones may just be a fluke, it’s important to look out for trends in customer feedback. An overwhelming amount of poor reviews can be very telling of a company’s quality and customer service. It’s also helpful to check if they had previous complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau and how they may have handled those issues.

In addition to online reviews, offline evaluations have plenty of merit. If any of your trusted friends, family, or neighbors have had prior experience with a moving company, be sure to ask them how their experience went. If the reviews aren’t so great, you might be better off continuing your search for a reliable moving company to help with your relocation.

  • Does Not Complete Thorough In-Home Estimate

To accurately gauge how much your move will cost, moving companies will almost always complete an in-home assessment to determine several factors about your relocation. Alternatively, some companies have recently adopted technology that allows customers to complete a video survey to obtain an accurate estimate.

Either of these methods can provide a valid way to determine the cost of a moving company’s services, tailored to your individual needs. However, a lack of a thorough estimate is a major red flag. Whether the assessment is rushed or completely missing, this is a sign that the movers aren’t taking the necessary time to offer their customers the appropriate price.

  • Provides Suspiciously Low Quote

Of course, we all want to receive a fair, affordable price when we’re shopping around for movers. Despite this, it’s important to be discerning about what a fair price actually looks like. If a company is giving you a quote that seems too good to be true, it probably is.

For this reason, it’s always best to request estimates from at least three companies so you can properly determine what a fair price for your move looks like. Oftentimes, when a low quote is provided, these rogue moving companies end up tacking on extra fees at the end.

  • Requires Large Deposit

On the other end of the spectrum, look out for moving companies that request a large deposit upfront. Most movers will ask for either a small percentage of your total cost or no payment at all prior to providing services. However, a common tactic employed by moving scammers is asking for a larger deposit upfront, which then results in providing subpar service or even no service at all.

  • Missing a Physical Address

For any reputable moving company, it’s necessary to have a physical address to use as an office space and a home to the various supplies needed to function as movers.

Many scammers will not have a physical address listed on their website, and they may also be missing a local phone number. These are warning signs that everything is not as it seems. A physical address and a working phone number operated by an actual human (not a robot!) are two required characteristics for any trusted movers.

  • Various Name Changes

Another red flag to be on the lookout for as you search for a moving company is a history of name changes. If a company has gone by numerous monikers, it’s typically a sign that they are trying to avoid a negative reputation following them. This is seen by scammers as an easy way to prevent customers from finding out more about a poor history when they used different names.

  • Incomplete Paperwork Provided

Finally, one of the most important things to be wary of is incomplete paperwork. It’s crucial to have all of the agreed-upon terms included in your contract with a moving company so you have something to refer back to.

These documents should always be thorough and precise in nature, providing an accurate depiction of what is expected from your movers. However, if they provide a blank or incomplete contract, this is a major warning sign to steer clear of this company. Professional, trustworthy movers will always give completed documents to their customers to ensure everything is in writing.

Sarasota Movers Think Environmental For Earth Month

Welcome back to the AAA Flat Rate Moving & Storage weekly blog update, where we discuss all things home and moving. To continue with our theme from last week: National Earth Month, today we thought we would talk about sustainability within the home. There are many ways that Sarasota movers can be conscious of the environment within their homes, without needing to change lifestyles. We will mention a few of them for you, to get the conversation started.

  1. Start a compost – If you have a yard, start a pile back away from the house. You can keep a container with a lid in your kitchen and put any compostable material into it (fruit/vegetable matter, egg shells, leftover grains – anything except meat and processed foods). If you don’t have a yard, find somebody local with a garden or a farm that you can bring your material to once a week. Composted material is great for a garden, and great for the earth!
  2. Be conscious of paper/plastic bags – Reuse paper and stay away from plastic! Plastic is harmful to the environment and does not decompose. You can also buy a reusable bag in the grocery store, which you can use each time you go shopping.
  3. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs – they screw into the typical light bulb socket, but use far less electricity. You won’t need to change them as often!
  4. Install a solar water-heater – It is both energy effective and cost effective!
  5. Recycle! – Separate your recyclables from your garbage. If you don’t get recycling picked up regularly, set a goal to drop off your cans and boxes a couple of times a month to a local recycling center. It makes a difference!

There are many other ways to take steps towards living a more environmentally friendly life. Do some of your own research if you’re interested! Conducting sustainable projects is a great way to get the whole family involved, and make your home a better place to live.

Happy Earth Month!

Sarasota Movers Celebrate National Earth Month

Welcome back to the AAA Flat Rate Moving & Storage weekly blog update, where we discuss all things moving! As your trusted Sarasota movers, we’d like to take a moment to discuss the great outdoors! April is National Earth month, and as spring is now well underway, we thought we’d talk about earth-related activities that you can consider in the new season.

If you’ve just moved, now is the perfect time to explore your new surroundings. Are there any parks nearby that you haven’t been to yet? Have you checked out your local farmer’s market? These are great things to look into if you’re new to an area. Try going on a picnic or taking a walk. Go see what you can find in and around your new town. Farmer’s markets and flea markets are great opportunities to go meet your new neighbors and community members.

What about planting a garden in your new back yard, patio, or deck pots? Whether you are growing crops or just simply eating them (if you’ve been to the farmer’s market), here is a great guide of when to harvest different crops depending on where you are. You can also search for local farmers depending on your location! http://www.pickyourown.org/US_crop_harvest_calendars.php

April is National Earth month, so as your trusted Sarasota movers, we’re encouraging you to go and get outside! If you’re planning an upcoming move but haven’t moved yet, you can still look up these things ahead of time so that you have something to do once you get to your new town. Go online and look up local fun things to do wherever you’re going. Check to see which day the market is and look up local festivals.

Happy spring!
